Hello everyone,
Three cold nights have passed and 4th day has come.
This morning started with a piece of pleasant news.
A telephone call was received at 9:07 a.m. My childhood friend who was hit by the earthquake and tsunami at Asahigaoka (area) is safe!
“Mayumi-chan, Oh well, finally got through.”
“Oh my goodness! You are alive. Great! Great!”
“Onagawa, the entire town is gone.” (speaking with Onagawa direct. smile)
Her sobbing voice really depicted the enormity of the tsunami in Onagawa.
As she seemed to be on her way to Sendai, the cell phone connection was intermittent. I lost the connection before we got into the important stuff. I immediately switched to a text message and was able to obtain information on the devastation to a certain degree.
Asahigaoka is a residential area that is located on a hill, which allowed it to escape the Tsunami.
Naturally, the lifelines were cut off and the charging of a cell phone was not possible, making it difficult for her to contact anyone. (AU signal is barely received.)
She seems to have gone down to Onagawa Daiichi Daycare Center and Youth Center. She told me that about 100 people must have evacuated to each location. (per cell phone conversation) Further down the hill from there, it was like a scene from hell; she could not make a step in there because of fear. Instead of going to Multipurpose Gymnasium, she returned to Sendai where her apartment is located.
A small number of people seem to be found safe and are moving to Sendai.
Let us be patient and wait for their contact without haste. It is hard to wait; but soon it will be daylight!
