March 13, 2011
Today is the third day since the earthquake. I fell into a deep sleep for the first time since the earthquake. Even a 6-hour sleep refreshed my brain and body. Please take an appropriate rest so that you can be positive and pray for everyone’s safety.
OK, let me summarize what has been learned as of 17:00 on Sunday, March 13.
・In the news at noon, it was reported that SDF (Self Defense Force) would supply (supplied) food to Onagawa.
・As of 14:30, 5000 people were found safe, 80 people were found alive on Enoshima Island.
・400 people were rescued from Izushima Island
What a light of hope we are seeing!!
There has been information on Twitter that as of 17:30, 7,000 people were safe. (I have not been able to confirm this information on any Internet news yet.) Hearing the noise of SDF helicopters, people must be coming one after another into the multipurpose gymnasium where supplies are.
When you hear the town with the population of 10,000, you might think it is a small town, but the town of Onagawa encompasses quite a large area. The images that have been reported show only the central area of the town. Some areas with deeply indented coastline have small fishing villages. In the central area of the town, there are some mountainous villages, too. In a safe area where tsunami cannot reach is a residential area called Asahigaoka. Some people have been said to have evacuated to the nuclear power plant facilities. With those people, the total number of people who survived should be more than what we know now.
According to a message from one of my former classmates, Mr. K, who lives in Tokyo, he could get a hold of Mr. H who was staying at the multipurpose gymnasium until yesterday. (Today, Mr. H moved to Sendai and the phone got connected.) He said in an animated voice that “people living on the coast side evacuated to the multipurpose gymnasium, so they are fine. :) Almost everyone moved in their vehicles that cold did not bother us too much.”
At the end of the message, my former classmate, Mr. K wrote that “My parents seem to be alive as I found out indirectly. Your family is fine, too!! I believe they are absolutely OK!!”
I do not have 100% proof that my parents are alive, but for now, I believe his words.
Your prayers are definitely delivered! Your family and we are all Onagawans! We have an innate power with vitality. Let us strive this situation with our lively characteristics of a fishing village!!
